Worlds Most Popular FREE FileMaker Solution Gets Major Update!

FM Starting Point 4.2 available today, now has full integrated support for barcode printing and scanning.   From searching for Contacts via barcode to adding line items to Invoices and Estimates, FMSP has you covered.

We have partnered up with Geist Interactive (developer of Barcode Creator) to make this a reality. Currently, you can scan any barcode into FMSP and do a search or add line items but with Barcode Creator you have the power to generate and print barcodes on Invoices, Products, Labels, etc.

While FMSP continues to be free, and offers scanning of barcode, user who want to create and print their own barcodes will want to make a one time purchase of Todd Geist’s award winning Barcode creating software for $199. This is of course optional, but FMSP is wired and ready to accept the BarCode Creator software as soon as you purchase it.  A short video is available to show you how to install it.

We are excited to release this useful tool for your business needs. You can download FM Starting Point here (www.fmstartingpoint.com) for free. Please contact us with any questions you may have.

RCC Training its 40th College Intern

I wanted to share a milestone in the history of RCC.  Not that I turned 40… I did that already.  RCC is now training its 40th college intern.

For those that are unaware of this… at any given time RCC is busy training a corp of college interns in the art of FileMaker.  RCC interns spend many months learning database design work, programming, and even the more important aspect of project and customer management.  They will take these skills plus many life lessons with them forever.  Some of the interns stay with RCC to become full fledged FileMaker Engineers.   In fact, in the past 12 months, RCC has had five of the interns go on to get their FileMaker 12 certifications.

About 1/3 of the interns  stay with RCC to create a permanent career, while the rest take their kung-fu FileMaker skills and move on to other job opportunities….where no doubt…FileMaker gets used to solve problems.

Where are our former interns now? well…. a short list reads like a Tom Clancy Book.  Two Marines, a Chief Petty Officer on a Nuclear Submarine (in the Nuke Part of the boat), three school teachers, a number of government employees, one that works in “high finance”…etc.

I am pleased with the people we turn out, and certainly they all become advocates for FileMaker.   A new crop of youthful developers…something that the FileMaker community really needs.

FileMaker Starting Point Released in Danish, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, and Swedish

January 31, 2012

Richard Carlton Consulting, Inc. (RCC) is proud to announce the immediate availability of more localized versions of FileMaker Starting Point.  FMSP in Danish, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, and Swedish are live and ready to be downloaded at http://fmstartingpoint.com/languages/localization.html.

“Our previously released versions of localized copies of FMSP are quickly becoming more and more popular,” says Richard Carlton, CEO of RCC.  “We have high expectations about the increasing popularity of these newly released versions, as well.”

Alejandro Gidi, a Localized FMSP user states this about the product, “We are very happy and pleased with FM Starting Point.  It enabled us to literally jump-start a project.  The solution is running about 20,000 records at the moment, and we’re adding around 1,000 more per day.  Thanks for a great product at an affordable price.  Congratulations and keep up the good work!”

“With over 150,000 downloads, FMSP for English has been a hugely successful solution, and we wanted to bring this fantastic tool to FileMaker users from other linguistic backgrounds, within and outside of the United States,” adds Richard Carlton, CEO of RCC. “Our English version has always been completely free and unlocked; however, RCC has retained translation professionals to advise and assist in our conversion.”

Due to the added cost of localization, the price for a localized version of FMSP is $99.  Upon purchasing the solution, there will be no “hidden” fees associated.  The purchaser will be able to customize her/his own solution without any restrictions and be able to deploy it to an unlimited number of users.

FileMaker Starting Point is made to run on the FileMaker®1 platform.  Users will still be required to purchase FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Go as her/his needs dictate.  A demo version of FileMaker Pro is available at www.filemakertrial.com.  A free trial version of FMSP in Italian is available, as well, through RCC to allow users a test drive before they purchase the application.

Adam Russ, project manager of the Localization Project, states, “The Localization effort is quickly coming to close with the release of the Danish, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, and Swedish.  Our last language to be released is Chinese (Simplified).  We are currently working on the translation end of that and will be releasing it in the near future.”

Richard Carlton Consulting, Inc., is one of the leading FileMaker consultancies in the United States.  RCC has been successfully developing solutions for small and large businesses for 21 years.  We provide customized database development services for business, government, and non-profit organizations.  With a team of 26 staff, we are capable of deploying both small and large solutions for a wide variety of customers.
